Our Mission + Vision
Reading Opens Minds promotes literacy in at-risk communities through book clubs, empowering individuals, building relationships, and inspiring hope.
We need BOOK CLUB FACILITATORS in the Los Angeles area including The San Fernando Valley.
We also need volunteers for events when we have them or special projects and research!
One thing that I’ve gained from book club is that I’ve learned to really connect with the people that I read about in books. It’s also taught me to feel empathy and learning how to interpret things and see things in many different ways. The books give us inspiration and they give us hope…I think my enthusiasm for book club rubs off on everyone else [around me].

After School Programs
ROM provides weekly or monthly school book clubs, for grades 6-12, between the hours of 1:30 and 5:30, a vulnerable time for students, especially those who live in areas that are less safe.
ROM holds monthly and bi-monthly book club meetings at local correctional facilities to help improve reading comprehension. We also work with facilities and organizations that offer programming for individuals who have been incarcerated and/or recovering from addiction.
ROM holds bi-monthly daytime book club meetings with seniors. either at program centers or senior residences.
